| It is the Moors we can thank for introducing rice to Valencia in the eighth century. In fact the Spanish word for rice 'arroz' derives from the Arabic word ar-ruzz. The Valencian flair for cooking has created the famous paella dish. This is typically meat based. In coastal villages it is common to cook a seafood paella, paella marinera. The paella is traditionally cooked over a wood fire using a flat shallow dish, known as a paella pan, from which the classic dish takes its name. Often it is eaten on social occasions as large paella dishes can easily accommodate a crowd. | |
In Alcossebre and Las Fuentes there are many restaurants serving a wide variety of different cuisine from the traditional food of Spain like Paella and Zarzuela to Chinese, German, Swiss and Italian cuisine.
This is a selection of Restaurants that we feel are constantly good, they are not in any order of preference just all serving good food over the whole price range. Some of which are:
Benimar is situated on the promenade between Alcossebre and Las Fuentes. This restaurant serves dishes with a Swiss twist.
Casa Batiste is situated on the sea front in Alcossebre. This is a typical Spanish restaurant and bar.

Mare Nostrum and El Patio are the places to go for pizza. Both are situated in the main town of Alcossebre and also have other Italian specialties on the menu.
Bar Cheers is one of the few English owned restaurants offering a balance between English and Spanish cuisine. Located on the harbour side in Las Fuentes it has become the hub of the English community and makes everyone welcome. Cheers make a wonderful full English breakfast, good old fashioned English fish and chips and a roast dinner on Sunday, just in case you are missing English cooking. They even go so far as to host a special curry night on certain days throughout the year.
Tintos, small, restaurant with French chef and his English wife as waitress. In the centre of town near to Casa Antonio. Superb food, lovely welcome, always a pleasure.
We recommend El Arenal for a traditional Valencian paella.
L'llla Restaurante Asador is by the marina and they have the most fabulous sea food and steaks. If you like pate you have to order the starter selection you get a huge portion and its the best pate ever.
