About this deal

GW just revealed three new Arks of Omen box sets made specifically for playing boarding action games, but could also be used for regular 40k. Alongside these, the Space Marine Boarding Patrol that’s out now, and the three further sets recently announced for the Necrons, Tyranids, and Grey Knights, there are even more boxes to come for other factions in the 41st Millennium.

The Grey Knights Strike Squad can be built as an Interceptor Squad, a Purifier Squad or a Purgation Squad – though the latter is apparently illegal in Boarding Actions, according to GW themselves. The immediate difference between the Boarding Patrol and other Warhammer 40,000 Detachments is that nothing is compulsory,” Rich explains. “It’s perfectly viable to take no Troops or HQs whatsoever, allowing lists to lean into clear concepts like an all- Navy Breacher force, or take nothing but Khorne Berzerkers – the gentleman’s choice.”Every unit in this box has Teleport Strike, meaning you don’t have to deploy right away. They can be set up in reserve and be deployed in the reinforcements step in future movement phases anywhere on the board you’d like – as long as it is 9″ away from enemy units. This will put you at significant advantage, as it gives you more opportunity and time to plan exactly where you can put your models in the most strategic places – on unclaimed objectives, or behind your foe’s models. In Boarding Actions, any unit with similar ability are invaluable. This versatile box provides bodies, ballistics, and big-hitters for you to join the eternal quest to uncover archeotech and fragments of holy STC from the ancient Arks of Omen. Chaos Space Marines are right at home on the claustrophobic corridors of a space hulk, and we’re not even convinced the Thousand Sons register much of the weirdness going on given the forces they tamper with. This Boarding Patrol pairs two Chaos Spawn with 20 Rubric Marines, bringing an impressive number of bodies and a pair of pskyers onto the board while the Spawn make a right mess of anything they encounter. They’re joined by an Eversor Assassin, presumably for the levity of his presence and not because a murderously volatile living bomb is exactly what you need in an operations zone separated from the freezing cold of space by less than a metre of bulkhead…

Step into the might of the Adeptus Astartes, the indomitable Space Marines – an elite force of genetically-enhanced warriors clad in impenetrable power armor. Forged from the genes of the Emperor’s Primarch sons, they are the pinnacle of combat prowess in the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40,000. Whether navigating the treacherous confines of a space hulk or engaging in intense boarding actions, Space Marines are unparalleled in their skill and versatility. It’s interesting to see the huge difference in value between the two boxes, as GW did price them differently, bevcaue one would have had a ton of value and one not so much. Is The Chaos Boarding Patrol Box Worth it?

Updated 40k Boarding Patrol Boxes: What’s the Value?

Regardless, it’s great to see exclusive sculpts discounted, albeit in box sets. Boarding Patrol: Death Guard – Value The Lieutenant is one of the most versatile character kits to date, with a choice of cosmetic parts and plenty of wargear. He can tote a plasma pistol, heavy bolt pistol, or a bolt rifle with one of three configurations, all while swinging a power fist or a power sword… or just pointing very emphatically. Boarding Patrol: Chaos Space Marines

As we said, this has a bit of a random assortment of models, but the value is definitely there! This actually rivals some of the better boxes from Christmas, so if you need all the models inside, this is totally worth grabbing, as you basically get two boxes of Possessed for free! It also contains the new Daemon Prince, which is quite pricey to grab on its own, so that’s very nice.

Best Warhammer 40k Arks of Omen Boarding Patrols Value & Pricing: Updated

The Balefleet Battleforce is a contingent of corrupted warriors comprised of 10 Possessed, five Chaos Space Marine Terminators, and a Heldrake, all led by an infernal Daemon Prince. Abaddon is truly a nightmare on the board – with the Terminator keyword, he can go into reserve and deep strike wherever on the board in the next turn, so you have the option to place him next to a strategic point at a later point in the game. If there is an unclaimed objective too far for the opposing player to reach, Abaddon can be there in a hot minute. To maximise him properly, you may have to forego deep striking and keep him with the lads Legionaries to buff them up with hit re-rolls and wound re-rolls, buffs to charge rolls and a myriad of other abilities that justify his expense. He’s also been given the Agents of Chaos keyword, meaning he can be dropped into a Death Guard, Thousands Sons or World Eaters army (though that may come at an expense of some abilities in those respective armies, be warned). And to top it off, he cannot lose more than 3 wounds in a given turn, and his statline is eye-watering. Taller de juegos have really despoiled us with this one. Two of the sets are made for actual boarding actions, while the other box is just more of a normal battleforce for Chaos with plenty (including the new Daemon Prince and older Heldrake model) that you won’t be able to use in boarding actions. New Arks of Omen Box Sets Revealed By GW This one is strange because a lot of the value comes from the Plague Marines, and considering the reinforcements box is so expensive for three minis; it’s hard to say.

These are sort of like small Combat Patrol boxes made specifically to be fielded for the new Boarding Actions. So, expect them all to have a lot of foot sloggers. Loremasters meanwhile investigates the most degenerate of the Traitor Legions – the Emperor’s Children. The only problem? Everyone else wants in on the action, and now the whole galaxy is boarding the Arks of Omen in search of glory, treasure, or just a big punch-up. In fact, four more Boarding Patrol boxes are preparing for launch in the near future – and only one of them might be said to have the Emperor’s best interests at heart… If you’ve seen our previous Boarding Patrol articles, you’ll see we’ve included points value and commentary on how to maximise what’s in the box for the tabletop – the side of the hobby that is sometimes forgotten over the sheen of ‘ooh, shiny model’. Not me though. Let’s see what the Sons of Mortarion can offer us.

New Arks of Omen Box Sets Revealed By GW

Lead from the front with a powerful Captain in Gravis Armour wielding a boltstorm gauntlet and a choice of fearsome melee weapons – ideal for contesting the confines of an enemy vessel. He’s joined at close quarters by 10 Assault Intercessors, each armed with a chainsword and heavy bolt pistol, who can be split into squads of five for navigating tight passageways. A squad of five Heavy Intercessors provide supporting firepower with a variety of heavy bolt weaponry, their armoured bulk warding off breachers as they flood whole corridors with a hail of death. This has a lot of value compared with the Space Marines box. However, you get the majority of it in Cultists and Abaddon, so if you don’t want either, then this is not worth it. This is a great value for those who need both cultists and Abaddon. Abaddon is truly a nightmare on the board – with the Terminator keyword, he can go into reserve and deep strike wherever on the board in the next turn, so you have the option to place him next to a strategic point at a later point in the game.
