If you’re in the market for a mini HiFi system that’s big on performance, then this could be the product you’ve been looking for. We continued to some Tidal streaming; there’s no unfolding of MQA Masters here for high-res streaming (as rival streaming system BluOS offers), but it’s arguable whether high-res is going to improve the excellent sound we enjoyed, whether punching up some bouncy REM or delivering the drifting flow of Philip Glass’s Closing. There was a limit to the size of bass the speakers could deliver, but the deep underlying organ note under Closing was certainly present, if not fully resonant. Despite a wide selection of features, the Denon CEOL-N10 is a compact and easy-to-use solution. This device doesn’t take up much space, and it takes minutes to set up.

The CEOL is a mini HiFi system, designed to fit in any room, with removable speakers and a compact footprint. You can buy the system without the speakers and add your own. The Denon CEOL-N10 is the focus of our review today, and the fourth-generation entry in the CEOL range. This incredible system includes support for multi-room playing. Plus, you also get state-of-the-art Wi-Fi technology, Alexa support, and AirPlay too. We couldn’t, among the various HEOS menus, find any way to change what the display shows when the unit is playing, though you can choose whether and how it shows the time when it’s off. You can set a time for it to turn on automatically, and the source it should play.

This system has external inputs, though not a vast number – just one analogue RCA pair at line level (no phono input/stage for a turntable), though two useful optical digital inputs, one of which might be used for sound from your TV. (We are great fans of having stereo speakers like those of the N11 combo either side of your TV, or under it, as in the image overleaf, in preference to an often intrusive soundbar in front of it.) Sorry this has turned into "help what should I do?" but how satisfied are people with features, performance & quality of the N11 and any other thoughts, suggestions on above? It seems there’s been quite some technological tweakery applied to the innards too. A new Class D amplifier, and new components and circuit design, have been used for supposedly improved clarity and reduced noisePrices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 28th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) Like the DNP-800NE, the N10 also built on the HEOS streaming platform. But not content with offering a vast assortment of hi-res network streaming options, it also offers Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, Internet radio, optical inputs, FM/AM radio and a built-in CD player. It will also get the AirPlay 2 update in August.
