Teahupo’o Tiki grew up in Polynesia and was taught by the renowned surf master Rincon Rex. He likes to claim that he was the first human to surf, but that claim is widely disputed, even by Rincon Rex! Rex says he taught many humans in Polynesia to surf well before he taught Teahupo’o Tiki.

The curvature of the board needed to be precise, or the nose would catch the water and flip the Dude over every time. There was also the issue of balance. Having a standard surfboard fin on the bottom of the Surfer Dude board was not enough to keep the toy upright, so I had to invent a new twist on an old design.
