Description

The world has changed since he first launched in an era of wall-to-wall fat women and ableist jokes, and the mocking of anyone with a foreign accent. Immediately you are in the realms of seriousness as since appearing regularly on TV with Justin Lee Collins, one star has risen, whilst Collins’ has fallen. It wasn't the ghetto-fabulous existence that we all know and love today, with the fast cars and Louis Vuitton hand luggage. then his follow-up, Alanatomy, will take you further into the hilarious and bizarre world of the country's favourite chatty man.

It looked funny watching it from my sofa but Alan said that running through the audience was quite scary. On the other hand, I found it really interesting reading about all the jobs he's had and the travelling he did and how he got to where he is now. However, even he would need to strike some sort of balance if he wants ‘Alanatomy’ to be a must read. I adore Alan's turn of phrase and find him so natural and quick as both interviewer and interviewee. I understand that not everyone wants to work in places like that but some people do, and not all jobs in those environments are dead-end jobs.Even so, Carr currently narrates CBBC series The Academy, a documentary following the careers of young players in Southampton FC's academy, featuring Mo Salah, current Saints captain James Ward Prowse and full-back Kyle Walker-Peters, as well as former Southampton players Alan Shearer, Theo Walcott and Nathan Redmond. Allen John Carr [1] (2 September 1934 – 29 November 2006) was a British author of books about stopping smoking and other psychological dependencies including alcohol addiction. Alanatomy’ rattles along at a pleasant and enjoyable pace, throwing a laugh in here and some gossip there, but even fans of celebrities will start to feel that the book is lightweight.

Even his sexuality, the one possible source of alienation for any teenager, seemed to broadly accepted. He's become a bit of a camp icon, but doesn't bang on about being gay in this book, in fact reading about his own revealation that he was gay was very touching and amusing. He further asserted that withdrawal symptoms are actually created by doubt and fear in the mind of the ex-smoker, and therefore that stopping smoking is not as traumatic as is commonly assumed, if that doubt and fear can be removed. I thought 'How you've maintained this job with such bad body odour is the biggest mystery but I bit my tongue and just said 'Give me a quarter of cola cubes my love, and then I'll get out of your hair.

I don’t think it’s a reflection of whether I drop people like a hot brick; I also worked in a factory and at Tesco, and I don’t speak to any of them. I love how, with this book, I was brought to laughter by Alan as he described some very depressing times he lived through. A balance must be made in any autobiography between irreverent fun and something meaty that actually makes you think.

These two gorgeous gay dads come along and they’re picking up their daughter and he goes, ‘God, I don’t even know how to be gay any more. His tasks at Barclaycard included finding out who was doing shits out in the corridor which I found so vomit inducing that my eyes started to water! Carr has won three British Comedy Awards (2007, 2008, 2013), two National Television Awards (2012, 2015) and a BAFTA TV Award (2013). I was excited to read this as I really enjoy Alan Carr's comedy, fortunately this book has the same humour you find in his acts.I think folk often forget how that people in the public eye are just that, people having to put a smile on and portraying life is all glam and fab but dealing with personal challenges.
